Brief:

The project aim to raise the profile of Anglia Ruskin University in schools, colleges and communities in the east of England, feeding into a key objective in the Outreach & Recruitment team operational plan and the university’s corporate plan. They wanted an exhibition vehicle to advertise the key messages both internally and externally.  The vehicle must be accessible and engaging to all users.  Anglia Ruskin University wanted the internal of the bus to be a flexible use of the space to provide a unique and inspiring visitor experience.

Commbus Solution:

During the years we have provided services to Anglia Ruskin University each bus tour has had striking external bus wrap that has captured the imagination of potential students and their parents a like.

We have fully scaled external templates which have allowed their creative teams to come up with designs which is then produced and fitted by our graphics team.

We first headed out on tour in 2011 and the hot topic then was student finance, with the changes to Student loan and tuition fees. The bus was set up with a suite of computers when students could get online to access information and the upper deck converted into a mini lecture theatre allowing a range of topics to be covered such as budgeting and the university application process and writing personal statements.

Each year not only have the external bus wraps been re vamped the internals have been too.

The lower deck of the bus of the bus is kitted out at a student common with an interact feedback wall where students can share there bus experience. The upper has been designed to give an indication of student life with a mock student flat with a kitchen, bedroom and budgeting game.

We built a bespoke kitchen following the colour scheme of this years tour, real appliances fitted (but not actually working for health and safety reasons). Allowed a perfect area for engaging with students and bring the realisation that they need to be able to look after themselves with no parents around to do their cooking & cleaning.

In the student bedroom and lounge a real bed was constructed and the team had a Anglia Ruskin University personalised duvet set made – which looked amazing.  Floor graphics of an Anglia Ruskin hoodie & iPod added another dimension for creating that student bedroom feel.

From the start of the project, Clare and Mark have done their utmost in supporting Anglia Ruskin staff to design and organise an excellent visitor experience. Their expertise in this field has been invaluable, and has allowed us to significantly improve our project year-on-year.  During the build stage, we found it hugely beneficial to visit the Commbus base to walk through the emerging designs.  The Commbus staff were on-hand to share their thoughts on the design and were happy to make improvements to maximise the effectiveness of the materials on board.  This support has been instrumental in achieving a striking and engaging resource.   This has been evidenced by the complimentary feedback from our visitors and from our staff alike about the exterior and interior of the bus.

Since the beginning we have found Commbus staff to be professional, friendly and willing to ‘go the extra mile’ to ensure the bus is well placed for its purpose.  Staff who have driven and maintained the bus have been reliable and have taken pride in their work.  We have found that the support from Commbus office staff has been fantastic, we have truly valued their flexibility when working through the logistics of planning the route, their support during the events as necessary and their overall can-do attitude. This year we’ve seen over 9000 students and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with them; we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Commbus.“
