Chinese New Year
2016 is Starting brightly for us, we are an official supplier for the UK Premier of the Magical Lantern Festival.
This visual spectacular is an artistic installation of amazing beautiful sculpted life size and giant lanterns. The festival showcase 52 tableaux, with over 58,000 bulbs. The lanterns are modelled on buildings, animals, birds and abstract designs.
Lantern Festivals are now sinonimos with the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year falls on the 15th day in the Chinese Lunar Calendar which this year is Monday 8th February. This year in the Chinese Zodiac it is the year of the Monkey, the festival will be celebrating this with Mount Huaguo lantern that has been created and features an illuninated waterfall and will provide the backdrop of the recreation of the popular Chinese Fable, the Monkey King.
The setting to host this iconic festival is the stunning Chiswick House Gardens in London. The extensive landscaped gardens are providing the perfect setting for this unique event.
Other features of the festival include:
A66 metre long dragon,
A10 metre tall recreation of Beijing’s Temple of Heaven
A 8 metre high porcelain Imperial Palace Lantern.
There is a long steeped tradition of Lantern festivals for celebrating Chinese New Year, they became a focal point for communities to join together with children marching through the streets trying to solve riddles that used to be scrawled on the lanterns. As the celebrations grew lanterns were used to decorate official palaces and throughout the streets. Simple lanterns gained in grandeur with craftsman creating animals and depictions of famous landmarks, creating these they believed it would display their wealth. Today the festival now have extravagant displays and attract huge crowds. The plans for this festival are sure not to disappoint. Our involvement with the festival began with 24 containers arriving from China filled with everything needed to build this amazing spectacular. We have been working along side the shipping agents and transport company arranging the logistics for the arrival to the event site. Chiswick House Gardens is an historic site, which brings with it certain limitations when installing an event of this stature. One of those limitations was the site only allowed for 2 deliveries at any one time and with 24 containers coming off the ship at the same time, there was logistical planning require . 2 Commbus event managers were onsite through the delivery and unloading times to assist and ensure everything went to plan. Restrictions of site vehicles in the garden meant that our double deck buses were not an option for the production and site offices. Our extensive fleet allowed us to provide the perfect solution in the form of our:
- Event Control Bus, Single deck – which is onsite as the executive production office
- Events trailer for managing the event ticket process and a base for the volunteers to work from.
Working across a range of events every year led us to put together our online hire shop. A one stop place for event organisers to go to be able to source everything they need.
We also have on site:
- 2 Movable storage trailers
- Utility trailer ( for servicing areas across the site)
- Pedestrian trackway
- Water Ballasts ( for securing the structures )
